Unlike a poorly coded plugin, the vulnerable code lives in the PHP engine itself. In turn, PHP resides on your server and runs your website, plugins, payment gateways, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If an attacker sends a specifically crafted request to your server\u2014often utilizing standard multipart data like file uploads\u2014they can trigger one of two related bugs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/cve-2026-109618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\"><strong>CVE-2026-109618<\/strong><\/a><strong> (Out-of-memory corruption):<\/strong> When PHP runs out of memory mid-request, it aborts the process. This can leave request-internal data half-initialized. The ensuing cleanup treats that corrupted data as valid, creating a pathway to execute malicious code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/cve-2026-109619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">CVE-2026-109619<\/a> (Stale global state):<\/strong> PHP retains references to request data after its backing memory has been freed. The next request on the same web worker can trip over that stale state, triggering a &#8220;use-after-free&#8221; exploit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In cybersecurity, this results in <strong>Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution (RCE)<\/strong>.
